About Regis Tennis

While it depends on the week, practices are usually everyday from 4-6. However, some days they will begin at 3:30 or even earlier. The Tennis game schedule for Regis varies, but usually takes place on days from Monday-Thursday. Sometimes players will get dismissed from school at 2:30 and their matches will end around 7 PM. Practices are usually held in three places: at the National Tennis Center (US Open), the Riverside tennis courts on 120th St, or Central Park. Players will usually get to practices on a Citi bike, train, or by taking a bus. While travel times for players vary, expect to get home from practices around 7 PM, and from games around 8PM. Senior member Alex Lorenzo, advises that, “The most challenging is being prepared to lose some matches. It’s bound to happen even if you think you are better. You just need to take your time and work through every point and only pay attention to that point.” The coach of Tennis team is one of the Regis’ Math teachers: Mr. MacDonnell. The team itself is made of 11-12 kids, from all grades. The team has many meetings to discuss the schedule during the week, and frequent emails as well as an active group chat for clear communication. 3 Singles and 2 pairs of doubles play during the matches. What Alex Lorenzo enjoys the most is “practices and watching other matches when we are done with outs, because we can all chat around and have a fun time.”
