About Regis Soccer

The JV team is made up of only freshmen and sophomores. Practices are usually 4-5 days a week, each lasting around 2-3 hours. Usually they will take place from 4-7 PM, either in the Regis Upper-Gym, Randalls Island, Jack McManus field on Roosevelt Island, or at Riverside Park (although practices at McManus and Riverside Park are very unlikely). Practices at Regis usually consist of 1.5 hours of watching film, and 1.5 hours of playing futsal. Games will occur any day during the week day, as well as sometimes on the weekends as well. In order to get to practice, on Randalls Island the team takes the 4 or 5 train up to 125th St. and then takes the M35 bus across to Randalls Island. The most difficult part of adjusting to the sport was definitely the commute and time management. Expect to get home from practices and games around 8 PM to as late as 10 PM if the games are far away (such as Staten Island or Brooklyn). The Regis team gets bussed to away games, and if you do not have a ride back there will be a bus that goes back to Regis as well. Each year, the team takes a pre-season retreat for 3 nights at either the Birkshires, or the Darrow School, in order to help the team bond and prepare for the season. The JV coaches of the team are Tobi Obi and Arib Khan, however the Varsity coaches Tim Hattori and Kamani Evans also are heavily involved in JV operations as well. The Regis soccer team has consistently one of the best teams in the city and state over the past couple of years, competing in 3 straight City Championships over the past 3 years, as well as a State Championship in 2024. While competitive, the team is very supportive of one another and an amazing environment to be a part of.
